Join us for our monthly gathering, hosted by PubNub (https://www.pubnub.com/)! We will feature one short and two longer talks, sandwiched with networking and food and drink. Bike parking is available at the venue—please bring your bikes inside.

Speakers of all programming and speaking experience levels are welcome to submit talks, and we're especially excited to host speakers who come from populations that are underrepresented in tech.

Using Nokogiri to create HTML elements during build time instead of using client-side JS lead to a faster Ruby-based site.
7:15pm — Haseeb Qureshi: How I Used Ruby to Crack My Own Password (Kinda)

7:45pm — Duretti Hirpa: Good APIs Make for Good UIs
Interfaces are more than just how something is presented. This talk aims to show how good API design informs good UI design, and how at the end of the day, the best interfaces have common principles: they're empathetic. More so, good interfaces are modular, reusable, and consistent.
8:15-9:00pm — More hanging out and talking to nice people
Speakers
Alyss Noland is the developer advocate at BigCommerce, an ecommerce platform. She spends time contributing to open-source projects and focuses on Ruby, Python, and JavaScript. She hopes to have a positive impact on women & the LGBTQIA community in tech.
Haseeb Qureshi is a software engineer at Airbnb. Before this, he was an instructor and Director of Product at App Academy, a top Rails bootcamp in SF. In a past life, he was a professional poker player.
Duretti Hirpa is a senior engineer on the backend engineering team at Slack. Currently, she's working on the growth team, though she's also spent time on the Slack Platform team, making it easier and more intuitive to build applications on top of Slack. She's constantly thinking of ways to humanize engineering—there's strength in the soft skills, after all. She's arguably probably the most extroverted person she knows, and is intensely interested in other people. She produces a podcast called “snackoverflow” about snacks, computers, and their surprising intersection. She has an undying love for Beyoncé (praise be), an immaculate gif game, and a real candy problem.
