The Tyne–Wear Derby (& Goal Rush)

This week sees the return of a banner fixture to the Premier League. The Tyne–Wear derby, also known as the Wear–Tyne derby or the North East derby, is a local derby between Sunderland and Newcastle United. The derby is an inter-city rivalry in North East England with the two cities of Sunderland and Newcastle upon Tyne just 12 miles apart. The last time the two sides faced each other in a league fixture was way back in 2016!
Sunderland are having a great season so far upon returning to the top flight. The Black Cats are currently in 9th position with 6 wins and 5 draws so far, well on their way to securing a second year in the Premier League.
Newcastle haven't been so happy, but with the league so tightly packed, the three points in this one could take them to the same points total as fifth place; they're currently in 12th.
In a bumper Premier League morning, we will also be keeping a keen eye on several other Premier League games:
- Crystal Palace v Manchester City
- Aston Villa v West Ham United
- Nottingham Forest v Tottenham Hotspur
