About us

Our Philosophy and Mission: (Prevention is better than Treatment, Getting Mentally Fit Together)
We believe that looking after your mental health is much like staying physically fit. You do not wait until you are sick to care for your body—you eat well and exercise to stay strong. We believe the mind works the same way.
If we become good at looking out for ourselves and each other early on, we may not need as many serious treatments or medications down the road. And if we all improve at the “workout” of caring for ourselves and those around us, we can create a healthier, happier world and prevent small problems from becoming major crises. We aim to popularize these “caring skills” so they become common sense for everyone.

What is “Carecraft”?
Carecraft is about more than simply “being nice” to yourself and others. It is the practice of using your mind, your body, and your skills to better support yourself and those around you. We take the best “moves” from professional counselling—such as observing your own mental state, active listening, awareness of transference and projection, and understanding why people behave the way they do—and turn them into everyday skills that you and your loved ones can benefit from.
Why a “Dojo”?
You cannot learn to swim by reading a book; you have to get into the water. A dojo is a place where you actively practice. It is where we develop these skills through role-play and honest conversation. Whether you are a professional therapist or someone who wants to be a better friend, parent, or partner, we all step onto the mat together to keep our mental health “muscles” strong.
What We Practice:

  • How to truly listen so others feel heard, without immediately trying to “fix” them.
  • How to communicate in ways that help others find their own motivation to change.
  • How to step back from your own stressed thoughts so they do not take over.
  • How to accept people as they are while still supporting their growth.

Step Onto the Mat
There are no “experts” here who have everything figured out—just people at different stages of practice. If you want to improve your craft of caring and keep your mental health in good shape, come practice with us.
