What we’re about
👋 Welcome to Our Hiking Group!
Escape the city and explore Britain’s beautiful countryside with a warm, inclusive community of nature lovers. Whether you're an experienced hiker or just starting out, you'll find adventure, fresh air, and great company here.
🌱 About Us
Founded in April 2025, we're a group of friends and outdoor enthusiasts who love exploring the outdoors, swapping stories, and sharing a passion for nature. Our goal is to create a respectful, welcoming space where people can enjoy hiking together.
🤝 About the Leadership Team
Our group is looked after by a small team of volunteers who work together and support each other. We make decisions as a team, always with the community in mind, and welcome input from members whenever possible. It’s all about shared responsibility, fairness, and making sure the group is a positive space for everyone.
✅ Who Can Join
- 🧑🤝🧑 Adults aged 21 and over are welcome to join our hikes.
- 👶 We do not allow children on our hikes.
- 🐾 No pets are permitted, including dogs. Why? For the safety, comfort, and enjoyment of all participants, dogs are not permitted on group hikes. Large group walks can include individuals with allergies, phobias, or discomfort around dogs, and even well-trained dogs may cause anxiety, disruption, or safety risks on narrow or uneven trails. Dogs can also pose challenges when encountering livestock, wildlife, or other trail users. To ensure our hikes remain inclusive, safe, and manageable for everyone, we maintain a strict no-dog policy on all group hikes. Members who choose to disregard this rule will not be welcome to join our large group hikes.
💰 Cost
All our hikes are free. Just sign up, turn up, and take part in the community. Most importantly, enjoy the trail and make new friends along the way.
🥾 Our Walks
Based in London and the South East, we organise regular hikes between 10 and 20 miles. Our routes explore scenic trails, ancient woodlands, rolling hills, and the occasional muddy field. Some walks are relaxed and beginner-friendly, while others offer a more challenging adventure, testing your stamina, focus, and love of the outdoors. Whether you're new to hiking or keen to push your limits, you're welcome to join us.
🌄 What to Expect
- A friendly welcome at the meeting point
- A comfortable group pace with breaks for snacks, photos, and conversation
- A mix of solo adventurers, working professionals, and outdoor enthusiasts
- Plenty of opportunities to enjoy nature and make new friends along the trail
- Some hikes ending near a café or pub for a relaxed post-walk catch-up
- The occasional unplanned scenic route 🍓🤦 – it’s all part of the adventure!
💪 Fitness & Readiness
Most hikes require a moderate level of fitness and the ability to maintain a walking pace of 4–6 km/h (about a brisk walking pace, think of walking purposefully but still able to chat), sometimes sustained over long distances. Please read the event description carefully to ensure the distance, pace, and terrain match your current ability. If you're unsure, just ask. We're here to help you enjoy the trail safely and confidently.
🚆 Travel, Group Tickets & Train Discounts 💳
- Most hikes are public transport friendly. See the event page for meeting points and travel details.
- We don’t arrange group train tickets, but if you arrive at the meeting point early, you might be able to team up with others and form a group with someone who has a Network Railcard. Just ask around or look for fellow hikers who mention they have one, most are happy to share the discount.
- By purchasing your own ticket, you also have the flexibility to travel home whenever it suits you, rather than being tied to a single group.
- If you hike regularly, it’s worth getting your own Network Railcard. It’s available to UK residents of any age for just 💷 £30 a year, and most people make their money back within only a few trips.
📍 Meeting Points
- Sometimes, the organiser will offer two meeting points.
- 1st Meeting Point: Usually at a London railway station, where an organiser may be present as a central meeting spot for the group to travel together.
- 2nd Meeting Point: Usually the starting location of the hike. Attendees can travel from any location directly to the 2nd meeting point before the walk begins, as not everyone will be travelling from London.
🎒 What to Bring
- Packed lunch and snacks
- At least two litres of water
- Sturdy hiking boots (for mud, rocks, and uneven trails)
- Layers and waterproofs (the weather can change quickly)
- Sun protection: hat, sunglasses, sunscreen
- Personal medication, blister plasters, and a basic first aid kit
- Antihistamines (for allergies or insect bites)
- Optional: walking poles

Join us for a full-day adventure through some of the best scenery in the Chilterns, featuring history, wildlife, woodland, and sweeping views. We’ll finish with an optional pub stop.
This 22 km (13.5 miles) easy/moderate hike begins gently along the Grand Union Canal, once a vital trade route, where locks, towpaths, and glimpses of wildlife set a calm tone before the climbs ahead.
The route then winds into beech and oak woodlands, carpeted with bluebells in spring and glowing with autumn colour later in the year. Shady trails lead through the historic Ashridge Estate, once royal hunting grounds, before opening out at the Bridgewater Monument, a striking landmark honouring the “Father of the Canals.”
From here, varied terrain carries us across wildflower commons and up to Beacon Hill, where sweeping views over the Chilterns make every climb worthwhile. The walk finishes in Aldbury, a picture-perfect village of timbered cottages and a duck pond, steeped in history and familiar from film and TV.
For those who wish, there’s the option to pause here for a celebratory drink, a fitting finale after a walk that blends discovery, effort, history, and adventure.

We look forward to seeing you there! 🥾🌳🌞 - FREE HIKE 31 km | Coastbound Challenge - Lewes to EastbourneLondon Victroia Train Station, Greater London
Embark on a rewarding full-day adventure from the historic market town of Lewes to the lively seaside of Eastbourne. The route follows well-marked trails that sweep over the rolling green hills of the South Downs, offering vast horizons, a rhythm of gentle strolls, heart-pumping climbs, and the occasional “why-do-I-do-this-to-myself” moment.
At times, the path meanders near the high northern edge of the Downs, where the slopes drop steeply toward the patchwork fields, woods, and winding lanes of the Weald below, all from a safe and steady distance. From here, the views stretch for miles, with the mosaic of countryside unfolding all the way to the distant horizon. Perfect for catching your breath and pretending you stopped just to admire the scenery.
It’s not just a walk in the park. While there are plenty of moments worth pausing for, this is a full-body workout with steady climbs, sweeping descents, and sections that will take your breath away, both literally and figuratively. Expect to work hard, break a sweat, and question your life choices on the uphills, only to have them gloriously validated by the views.
⚠️ TERRAIN, CONDITIONS AND DIFFICULTY:
- Distance: 31 km (19.3 miles)
- Elevation gain: Ascent: 783 m | Descent: 792 m
- Maximum elevation: 215 m | Minimum elevation 0 m
- Terrain: A mix of gravel tracks, open chalk downland, grassy slopes, farm paths, muddy fields, and occasional wooded sections.
- Difficulty: STRENUOUS - This is a long-distance hike with undulating hills, some very steep sections, and open plains.
- Average moving pace: ~4.2 km/h (brisk on easy flat sections)
- Approx walking time: 7.5 to 8 hours
- Approx total duration: 9 hours including breaks
- Participants must be confident in their ability to walk distances of up to 35 km, accounting for potential route diversions. These may include re-routing to avoid livestock, navigating around flooded low-lying sections, and undertaking steep ascents.
- Fitness Gauge: If you’ve completed the Surrey Three Peaks Challenge (around 37–40 km with 1,000+ m of ascent), you’ll find this Lewes–Eastbourne hike slightly shorter but with less total climbing. However, the exposed South Downs ridges (little or no tree cover, exposed to the elements) and a steady pace (average ~4.2 km/h over the full day) could make it feel just as demanding. If Surrey 3 Peaks left you struggling to keep pace, this route may do too.
🥾 The journey kicks off with a steady climb over the Lewes Downs, where the horizon suddenly opens to sweeping views across the Ouse Valley. It serves as a gentle reminder that this is only the warm-up. You then drop into the quiet charm of Glynde, just long enough to wonder if you should quit while you’re ahead.
From there, the trail rises again over Mount Caburn and onward to Firle Beacon, one of the crown jewels of the Downs. This is where the world feels huge, the air feels cleaner, and the breeze hits like nature’s own round of applause. It is also where you might swear you have reached the top three times before you actually have.
A gentle descent leads into the postcard-perfect village of Alfriston, before the path pulls you back onto higher ground towards Jevington. One final push takes you over Willingdon Hill, where the reward is a glorious downhill roll into Eastbourne with the sea shimmering ahead. It is a finish line you can see long before you reach it, just to taunt you a little.
As we enter Eastbourne, we will head straight to the station, where you can choose to hop on the train home, grab a pint, or wander down to the seafront and let your legs know they have earned it.
