Work Jam! Focused solo work at a group table
Do you work better when you do it alongside other focused people who expect the same focus from you? Do you have some hard work to push through and want to find a great work environment to get it done? Or are you just tired of working on your own and looking for the positive energy that comes with working alongside others? *Work Jam provides a solution!* Join a group of 3 to 10 people, bring a laptop and some work to do, declare your goals to the group, and start working! We'll use the *pomodoro* technique, a work method with 5 minute breaks after each 25 minute work session. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pomodoro_Technique CAN'T MAKE THE LIVE EVENT? Every time a live physical Work Jam happens in one of 90+ StartupBlink Meetup groups around the world, StartubBlink's Telegram Work Jam channel will also be active, so you can also participate and feed your goals for each session there, even if you live in Timbuktu: https://t.me/workjams If you don't see a comment, you are the first person, so please post one. *Please do NOT click "Attend" for this Meetup event if you'll only join the virtual event. Only click "Attend" if you'll work from Locus Workspace* since space is limited to 10 at the venue. WHY WORK JAMS? Working together has been shown to boost productivity for certain kinds of work. - It helps create accountability when you declare your goals to others, particularly when you're working alongside one another. - The shared group pomodoro creates a kind of positive social contagion: working alongside other focused people promotes your own focus. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Behavioral_contagion#Social_facilitation). The *pomodoro* technique in particular has shown positive results in helping people work more efficiently--and enjoyably!--on projects that require long, focused attention, and doing it as a group reinforces the timer. HOW WE'LL WORK *We'll use the following shared pomodoro timer for both the live and virtual Work Jam*: https://www.marinaratimer.com/locus 08:30 - 8:50: Coffee and set up. Please do not ring Locus's buzzer before 8:30 am, but give yourself enough time after that to get a coffee (it's free), get setup to work, and say hello to anyone else in the room. At 8:50 we'll go around the table, introduce ourselves, and (optionally) state our goals for the 3.5 hours of focused work. At 9:00 sharp, we'll begin our first 25-minute work session before taking a 5-minute break. We'll repeat that process at the top and the bottom of every hour until 12:25. At 12:30, (optionally) join Work Jam participants and coworking space members at lunch at a neighborhood restaurant (unless you're participating virtually, of course). Please show everyone respect by only talking/chatting during the breaks and by sticking to your goal project during the work sessions. OTHER IMPORTANT EVENT INFO *What if you're late?* - It's fine to join one of the later sessions. - If you arrive at Locus after 8:59, and are not a member of the coworking space, WAIT to ring the doorbell until one of the five minute breaks before the top and bottom of every hour. - If you're already in Locus or you're participating virtually, you can join the Work Jam any time, but don't chat until the break. At the break, please introduce yourself and state your goals for the work session. *Please register and un-register*: Since the live group is limited to maximum 10 participants, it's important we know who will be at the event venue. Please select, "Going", if you're joining live (but not if you're joining virtually) AND cancel your registration to make room for others if it turns out you can't attend! What we're about

WHO SHOULD JOIN
English-speaking freelancers, remote workers, solo- or micro-entrepreneurs, digital nomads, and other location-independent professionals making Prague their home for a few weeks or a lifetime. If you work from home, from cafes, or from a coworking space, and you'd like to connect with similar folks, this meetup group is for you.

MEETUP LOCATIONS

Many of our meetups take place at Locus Workspace (http://www.locusworkspace.cz), an English-language coworking space comprised of location-independent professionals from around the world.
We also meet at pubs anywhere else in or near Prague where the meetup group memebers would like to organize an event!
WHAT ARE THE MEETUP TOPICS
We'll organize meetups on any topic connected to the life of a location-independent professional or a digital nomad, whether those events are about professional development, work productivity, or just getting together and having fun. On the first Wednesday of each month we organize a "Hump Day" (Wednesday) pub night, and on the first Friday we host a Jelly (http://workatjelly.com) (a meetup to simply work alongside other location-independent professionals for the day).

WHO ORGANIZES THE MEETUPS
Any members of the meetup group are welcome to suggest events and as long as three or more members join the event, it'll be scheduled. If you'd like to organize events for the group on a regular basis, just let us know and we'll make you an event organizer. The only requirement is that the events are not paid, promotional events to sell a product or service.

Locus Workspace (http://www.locusworkspace.cz/) or its members organize the monthly pub night and Jelly (http://workatjelly.com/) (free, open day of coworking).
