Do you want to start reading more for fun? This is a book club of low-stakes & fun fiction for people who want to get into (or already enjoy!) reading recreationally. Books will generally be very readable fantasy/scifi with an optimistic vibe. Intentionally easy and fun reads, but with plenty to talk about and make you think!

The book for the February 16th meeting is The Long Way to a Small, Angry Planet by Becky Chambers:

  • "The Long Way to a Small Angry Planet follows the diverse crew of the spaceship Wayfarer as they embark on a long-distance journey to build a hyperspace tunnel for a distant civilization. Rather than focusing on epic battles, the story highlights the evolving relationships, cultural exchanges, and quiet moments of kindness within their vibrant found family."
  • Tags: Space Roadtrip, Found Family, Soft Sci-Fi, Character Driven, LGBTQ+, Optimistic

We always support borrowing from a library or buying from a local independent bookstore. (Our favorite is Offbeat Books in SE Atlanta! We encourage visiting Offbeat Books in person, but you can also order physical and e-books or audiobooks from them online!)

The meeting location is Freeside Atlanta- a non-profit makerspace about 10-15 minutes south of downtown Atlanta. Parking is free and plentiful. Feel free to bring snacks and/or drinks. BYOB responsibly if desired for those 21+. Our address is 3043 Commerce Way, Atlanta, GA 30354.

What to expect during the book club meeting?

  • Introductions
  • A few conversation starters or activities related to the book
  • Possibly breaking out into smaller groups if there are a lot of people
  • Meeting and chatting with cool & excellent humans!

Even if you don't finish the book, you're welcome to come chat about what you did read. ALL readers are welcome, as this is a positive and non-judgmental group.
