Building Interfaces between Computers, Electronic Circuits and the Real-World

Note to prospective NEW attendees: We are nearing the point where it will be hard for new attendees to easily "get up to speed" and be successful in the project build phase. Over the next two weeks we will lay out the plan for the resulting project, specifically the type of motor and motor drive electronics. After that is finalized, I am going to close the group to new members.

This open class will generally repeat every week as an educational outreach of Freeside Atlanta. Paying members of Freeside Atlanta may attend free. The class fee for non-members is $10 per session. Project materials may also have a cost.

Prerequisites: There are no prerequisites. The intent of this class is to help the individual participants move forward in learning to apply electronics to real-world problems. We will be designing and building a “chain” or “stack” that will bridge the gap between a laptop computer and a 110 volt 100 watt light bulb or fractional horse power electrical motor. The limitless variations and possibilities make this an extremely flexible project. Come and learn the science and the engineering that makes this such an open-ended project.

If you have an “interface” that is not working or not working the way you expected it to work,bring your device and the documentation so we can advise you correctly. If you don’t yet have parts, kits or devices, bring your product and price research, if any.

If all you have is an idea, bring your idea and be ready to talk about it. Expect to review basic electronics and design from the ground up. Our goal will be to help you get started or move forward from where you are.

Membership is not required to attend these meetings or to take our classes. However, all guests will be required to sign liability waivers, which is standard practice for makerspaces.
