The Tremendous Influence on Free-market Economic Theory of Ludwig von Mises / Liberalism vs. Authoritarianism
Meeting # 3,849 - Justin Tucker, College Regular and 1st Ward Libertarian Committeeperson
The Austrian-born economist Ludwig von Mises had a tremendous influence on free-market economic theory and on the platform of the Libertarian Party. Born in 1881, he was greatly affected by the events of the First World War. He later came to the United States in 1940 and helped forge the burgeoning libertarian movement through his lectures and such works as "Human Action."
College regular and 1st Ward Libertarian Committeeperson Justin Tucker will offer an analysis of Mises' 1927 book "Liberalism." Written in the interwar period, "Liberalism" advocates for such classical liberal tenets as private property, capitalism, and democracy. Published as authoritarianism was on the rise, this book is as relevant now as the time it was written.
