Book Club 01: Martyr

Join us for our very first Bay Area Book Club! The book we’ll be discussing is Martyr by Kaveh Akbhar.

The book is about Cyrus Shams, a newly sober, queer Iranian-American poet navigating addiction, grief, and a quest for meaning. Following his mother's death in a 1988 US-shot-down plane incident, Cyrus becomes obsessed with the idea of martyrdom to understand his inheritance of loss.
