Join us in this two-part series exploring the life of Harriet Tubman and visiting areas along the Underground railroad. This is a two-part trip: Part 1, April 30-May 3, 2026, and Part 2, May 4-13, 2026, Escaping to Freedom
In Part 1, we will visit Cambridge Maryland and the surrounding area to explore Harriet's home place while living in Maryland along with the numerous museums in her honor. This extended weekend program will incorporate history and outdoor adventure activities along the waterway of the Chesapeake Bay.
In Part 2, we will travel along the various routes that were part of one of the many underground railroad journeys from Philadelphia to Canada along the New York route. We will visit various places along the underground railroad in Philadelphia, New York City, Auburn New York (her last home), and Niagara Falls, ending the journey in the free country of Canada across the bridge in St. Catherines.
Part 1 is a 4-day/3-night program and includes:
- Lodging for three nights in Cambridge, Maryland
- Local history tours and transportation to the tour sites
- A selection of outdoor activities and a wine tasting event
- Daily breakfast and dinner meals
General Itinerary:
Day 1- April 30: Arrive in Cambridge, Maryland by 4PM. Sunset cruise and dinner. Overnight in Cambridge for three nights.
Day 2: Harriet Tubman Tour
Day 3: Morning outdoor adventure tours and afternoon relaxation
Day 4: Morning hike after breakfast and depart for home
Part 2 is a 10-day/9-night program and includes:
- Train transportation from Washington, DC to Buffalo, New York (business class seats)
- Return flight from Buffalo, New York
- Lodging for 9 nights in central Philadelphia (2 nights), New York City (2 nights), Syracuse, New York (1 night), and Buffalo, New York (4 nights)
- Local history tours and transportation to the tour sites
- A selection of outdoor activities including a visit to Niagara Falls
- Daily breakfast and 7 dinner meals
General Itinerary:
Day 1- Monday, May 4: Depart DC via train to Philadelphia. Overnight in Philadelphia for 2 nights (D).
Day 2: Local history tours (B, D)
Day 3: Train to New York City. Overnight in New York for two nights, (B, D)
Day 4: Local history tours (B, D)
Day 5: Train to Syracuse, NY. Overnight for 1 night, (B)
Day 6: Morning local history tour and afternoon train to Buffalo, NY (B)
Day 7: Local history tours (B, D)
Day 8: Local history tours and Niagara Falls (B, D)
Day 9: Free day to relax or explore on your own (B, D)
Day 10 – Wednesday, May 13: Depart home, flight to Washington, DC (B)
The Trip 1 cost per person is $1395 based on double occupancy, single room add $459
The Trip 2 cost per person is $5355 based on double occupancy, single room add $2350
Rooms may be shared with others who will be traveling with the group and roommates can be arranged.

Cancellation Policy: There is a $500 nonrefundable cancellation fee. The balance of whatever has been paid less the cancellation fee will be refunded if cancelled before January 15, 2026, AND a replacement has been found. A replacement refund may be at a lower cost than the original purchase price. No refunds are provided if cancelled after January 15, 2026. This Fresco Adventure traveling series will take us to various locations that explore the African American experience from arriving in America through returning to our roots in Africa. During the five-year journey we will visit various historic towns and cities in the United States, learning about our history in this country along with our traditional outdoor adventure activities of hiking, biking, water-fun, and culinary experiences.
A detailed itinerary and other registration information will be emailed upon receipt of the initial deposit. The $500 payment in this Event represents the initial deposit amount.
