Join Friends of Animals’ Wildlife Law Program, Polar Planet, Canada Geese Protection Colorado, and GreenLatinos at Barnum Park for a hands-on restoration event in honor of Migratory Bird Day.

Barnum Park, part of Denver’s South Platte River system, is an important open space and park for species native to Colorado, and migratory species, including snowy egrets, Canada geese, hawks, eagles, and even more birds. It is also home to many resident wildlife species. As an urban park intended to support wildlife habitat, yet located near our busiest highways, keeping it clean is increasingly important to help ensure it provides wildlife the food, nesting sites, and shelter they need to thrive.

Here’s what we’ll actually do together on Migratory Bird Day:

  • Remove litter and debris from the pond and shoreline to prevent wildlife entanglement and improve water quality. Fishing line, plastic bags, bottles, and small pieces of plastic are among the top items we will remove.
  • Use buckets, trash pickers, waders, and other tools to collect trash from hard-to-reach areas.
  • Restore sections of the shoreline to make them safer and healthier for birds, turtles, and other species.
  • Light gardening and debris removal from the flowerbeds.

This is a family-friendly, open event—and everyone is welcome. You don’t need any special skills, just a willingness to help.

Barnum Park deserves to be a safe home for wildlife and an even more beautiful neighborhood park. We hope you'll help us give wildlife a better place to live and everyone who visits a renewed connection with nature.
