Visit the Skinner and Sons Silk Mill sites (1874—1980) for a fascinating tale of old industrial Holyoke. Grasp the laborious process of silk manufacturing and feel what it was like to work in the mill. See real silkworm cocoons, raw silk skeins, and a wedding dress made from the final product. Expect about 1/4 mile walk.
This program is free and appropriate for teens and adults. It begins in the Holyoke Heritage State Park Visitor Center, 221 Appleton Street, Holyoke, MA 01040. Dress for the weather. Severe weather cancels.
