- Bird box monitoring workshop
Melissa Guimont will explain what kinds of birds use our boxes in the forest and talk about the different nests they make. We will discuss identification features and we will offer information for people to use when checking on their own boxes at home or helping us in the forest with our bird boxes. We will train volunteers to monitor the native bird nesting boxes in MSSF if they choose to help. Meet at the MSSF Headquarters Parking Lot at the "Interpretive Center" at 12:00. Please bring binoculars and a Phillip's head screwdriver. The training will last ~ 2 hours. If there is rain, we will reschedule it for Monday, April 17th at 9:00 am. We will send an email out to all those who sign up for rescheduling if the weather doesn't cooperate. We will be looking in the bird boxes and setting up a schedule for volunteers to check these boxes once a week from May-August. Please attend if you have a bird box in your yard that you need to monitor also!

- Park Serve Day and Cookout
DCR’s Annual Park Serve Day is coming Saturday April 22, 2023 to Myles Standish State Forest. Join us for a morning of work followed by a cookout sponsored by the Friends.
With the help of volunteers, DCR will spruce up our park's facilities, clean beaches, clean and maintain trails, plant flowers, and more! These valuable resources belong to all of us, and we can all take pride in them.
Since Park Serve Day began in 2006, tens of thousands of Massachusetts residents have helped to prepare Massachusetts state parks and beaches for the summer recreation season. At the conclusion, the Friends will provide a free hamburger and hot dog cookout for all participants. (We will also provide a vegetarian option if you tell us in advance and let us know what would be good. )
Please plan to come out and join in on April 22rd. Meet us at the park headquarters on Cranberry Road in Carver at 9:00am.
Things To Know:
The event is sponsored by DCR and the Friends of Myles Standish. Activities are suitable for adults and children over age 8. Wear appropriate shoes and dress for the weather. Consider bringing a hat, sunscreen and extra drinking water to stay well hydrated. Call the park office at[masked] if you have questions about cancellation owed to inclement weather, etc.More information will be posted as we get closer to the event.
