    Western Gate Chapter of the Florida Trail Association regularly schedules trail work on the Florida National Scenic Trail and Florida Trail in Escambia and Santa Rosa County, FL. each Thursday. Anyone who enjoys working outdoors is invited to participate. No experience is necessary and volunteers will only be asked to do tasks they are comfortable with. You should wear sturdy work clothes and boots/shoes. Work gloves, along with other safety gear, will be provided, or you can bring your own if desired. You should also bring plenty of water, snacks if desired, and other items appropriate for the day and season, including sun screen, insect repellant, and rain gear. Tools will be provided.   • 2nd Saturday Work Hike

    Blackwater Forestry Center

    Every 2nd Saturday of the month, the Western Gate Chapter works on a section of the Florida Trail in Blackwater River State Forest or State Park. This event is open to all, whether a member of the Florida Trail Association or not. No experience is necessary. Bring lots of water, a snack, work gloves if you have them and a willing attitude. Tools will be provided. Sunscreen, bug spray, and hiking boots, shoes or other close-toed shoes are recommended. Come out to enjoy working in the beauty of the woods with other FTA members who are knowledgeable and would like to share the experience with you.

  • Hike Russell Harber Landing to Old River Trail - Milton

    Santa Rosa County Veterans Memorial Plaza

    We’ll walk across the bridge to Russell Harber Landing and then on to Old River Trail. We’ll hike approximately 4 miles (out and back) on sidewalks, trails and sand - primarily along the river. Part of the path will be sunny and part will be shady. Dogs are welcome, but must be on a leash. Dress for the weather, wear comfortable shoes, wear sunscreen and BRING PLENTY OF WATER! Afterwards, feel free to join us for lunch at Boomerang Pizza (5227 Willing Street, Milton).
