On Seeing & Knowing (In-Person)
Details
In 1688, an Irish scientist and politician, named William Molyneux, posed a question to the philosopher, John Locke. If a person who was born blind were to suddenly gain the ability to see, would they recognize objects they had previously only known through touch? This week, we will discuss an article by Shashwat Mishra where he outlines the variety of ways philosophers have attempted to solve the problem through centuries. Mishra also writes on the real world implications the Molyneux has for modern technology.
Join us for a thoughtful discussion on perception and the limits of knowledge about the world as we drink and dine at Bootlegger's Brewery in Fullerton.
