Stanford Medicine psychiatrist, Nina Vasan believes AI chatbots require safeguards in interacting with children and teenagers. When psychologically distressed teenagers treat AI companions as their friends, the AI can reinforce the distressed person's cognitive distortions and suicidal ideations. In a real case, California parents filed a lawsuit against OpenAI after ChatGPT prompted their 16 year old son to commit suicide.
