About us
Gainesville Nonviolent Communication is a community of folks seeking personal and collective transformation through the power of self-responsible, honest, and compassionate communication and listening. We aim to connect hearts across Gainesville using Nonviolent Communication (www.cnvc.org) and other tools.
It’s a language and set of tools for harmony where connection has been broken or lost, and for restoring a pathway to closeness, intimacy, and authentic expression with those around them.
We offer an introduction to the principles of nonviolent communication, as well as advanced skills and other nuanced topics. Practice consists of teaching exercises, discussion, and role plays. You are free to participate as much or as little as you would like.
Our trainers, Leif, Marina, Eze, and Kathleen offer workshops as well as coaching for individuals, couples and families. To get in touch, or find out more, visit www.gnvc.love

Listening beneath the words, identifying needs and values.
Sage Wellness, 4881 NW 8th Ave, GAINESVILLE, FL, USIn-Person Workshop in Gainesville, Florida - at Sage Wellness
Title: Listening beneath the words, identifying needs and values.
Have you been struggling in your close relationships with family, friends or your partner? Are you tired of getting defensive, shutting down, or reacting to others?
Are you wanting to learn better ways to support people in your life?“The most basic of all human needs is the need to be understood.”
– Ralph G. NicholsIn this workshop we will focus on how to BE with others in a way that keeps you connected, and that helps others connect more to themselves.
Sometimes a person says things out of frustration, anger, or reactivity. They are having unmet needs, or having values that are being challenged.
How can we support others who are struggling? How can we help them feel more connected to themselves before we respond about our own experience?
How can we "wait our turn" so they become more available to really hear what's inside of you?“People do not care what you know until they know that you care.”
– Theodore RooseveltIn this workshop, Kathleen will model some communication scenarios, support participants to process their own situations, and create a safe space for practicing new skills (if desired) that you can carry into your life right away.
Objectives:
1. Be able to define universal human needs and practice identifying ones's own unmet needs.
2. Be able to slow down and recognize when another is expressing emotionally.
3. Be able to recognize that before they are available to understand you, they may need to feel understood first.
4. Successfully practice verbal responses that highlight values and needs.In-person workshop on 7 April 2026.
