In-Person Workshop in Gainesville, Florida - at Sage Wellness

Title: Listening beneath the words, identifying needs and values.
Have you been struggling in your close relationships with family, friends or your partner?

Are you tired of getting defensive, shutting down, or reacting to others?
Are you wanting to learn better ways to support people in your life?

“The most basic of all human needs is the need to be understood.”
– Ralph G. Nichols

In this workshop we will focus on how to BE with others in a way that keeps you connected, and that helps others connect more to themselves.

Sometimes a person says things out of frustration, anger, or reactivity. They are having unmet needs, or having values that are being challenged.

How can we support others who are struggling? How can we help them feel more connected to themselves before we respond about our own experience?
How can we "wait our turn" so they become more available to really hear what's inside of you?

“People do not care what you know until they know that you care.”
– Theodore Roosevelt

In this workshop, Kathleen will model some communication scenarios, support participants to process their own situations, and create a safe space for practicing new skills (if desired) that you can carry into your life right away.

Objectives:
1. Be able to define universal human needs and practice identifying ones's own unmet needs.
2. Be able to slow down and recognize when another is expressing emotionally.
3. Be able to recognize that before they are available to understand you, they may need to feel understood first.
4. Successfully practice verbal responses that highlight values and needs.
