What we’re about

The Gaslamp Film Society is a "movie & discussion" group based in downtown San Diego, focusing on critically-acclaimed releases (generally a >75% score on the rottentomatoes.com ratings aggregator).

Following our screenings, we adjourn to a nearby restaurant to discuss what we've seen. We believe that each film can teach us something about the craft of storytelling, and we workshop the film together, breaking down plot points, themes, scenes, etc. What do you think the film was trying to say, and in what ways did/didn't it succeed? Which scenes worked for you, and how would you improve those that didn't?

We strive for a fun, respectful atmosphere for critical film discussion, where everybody's participation is the goal. For that reason, we limit the number of attendees to small groups, and expect you to attend if you've RSVPed "Yes." A picture of members is compulsory so we can find you at events. If you are not accepted into the group for this reason, you're encouraged to rejoin once you've included one.

We're most active in Fall-Winter as we get you ready for the Oscars. Expect meetup screenings for almost all the candidates/nominees leading up to the awards.
