Let's hike/walk 2.5 miles of Red Rocks Park trails. I rated this hike an "Beginner" because the paths are wide and even (for the most part) and the elevations are short.

CANCELLATION: This event will be canceled if there are high winds, it is pouring rain, sleeting or lightening. Look at the comments for this event before heading to the park.

WHAT TO EXPECT:

  • I've hiked this area once. With that, I am by no means an expert on the winding trails; expect we may need to correct course at least once.
  • Arrive 10 minutes early to get ready; I always leave on time.
  • We will go slow and stick together.
  • Dogs are allowed, but they must be leashed (my dog is not keen on being leashed, but she will be if I bring her).

WHAT TO BRING:

  • Water and a snack
  • A positive attitude :)

SUGGESTED DIFFICULTY SCALE - Remember, many factors can make what is typically a "beginner" hike very difficult. These include not feeling well, wearing the wrong clothing, not being hydrated and/or not having enough calories in you, the weather conditions, etc. If you find you are having difficulty on a hike, it is your responsibility to let your leader know immediately. ALWAYS bring at least a liter of water and a snack.
Beginner Less than 5 miles with an elevation gain of less than 700 to 800 feet on a dry, calm day.
Beginner+ Less than 5 miles with an elevation gain of less than 700 to 800 feet in most weather conditions.
Moderate 5 to 10 miles with less than 2,000 feet of elevation gain.
Difficult 10 miles or more, and those with more than a 2,000-foot elevation gain.

Just a reminder that meetup.com is a platform that allows us to get together without the assumption that event organizers or leaders are licensed, insured or experts. Although I have some hiking experience, I am not an expert hiker. I am simply providing an opportunity to have some fun. Do not expect I will keep you safe, have first aid supplies or know how to use them.

252 Club Bag: South Burlington

*What is the 252 Club? (Well, actually it's real name is the "251 Club," but a new town was recently added to the list.) It is a club that people join, touch all 251/2 townships in Vermont, and earn a certificate of completion. Peter and I are simply tracking the towns we touch on our own. Our rule is that we must do some type of activity in the town and then take a picture of ourselves (and anyone we did the activity with) near a sign or structure that is unique to the town.
