Fate: The Secrets of Cats

Fall Has come to Silver Ford. The tourists and summer guests are gone, leaving only the permanent resident humans, or as The Cats of Silver Ford call them, their Burdens. Because that is what they are. The safety of the humans falls on The Cats. Each Cat has a family or individual they are responsible for. And it’s not always easy keeping them from harm while adhering to the most important Cat code of all, never let them know The Cats are Magical.

Coyotes are coming in at night and attacking The Cats. Jezebel, the old but declining leader of the Cat Parliament has declared a curfew during hours of darkness. Coyotes are a new problem. At least its mundane unlike the troubles that have fallen on Sliver Ford in previous seasons. A possessed rat, a serial killer, and the banishment of Jezebels protege, Sable for attempting to sacrifice a child to power her magic. And of course the occasional Chulpa threatening a child. Poor dears, children’s open minds leave them susceptible to seeing and falling prey to the supernatural monsters hiding in the darkness.

Ms. Petty the owner of the bookstore has passed suddenly. Her Niece, Abigail, was set to take over management so Ms. Petty could work her way into retirement. It just so happened that Mr. Smith from New York City was looking for a way to leave the busy city and find a little bookstore to purchase. What a coincidence. Poor Ms. Petty’s not in the ground yet and Abigail has sold to Mr. Smith and is ready to shake this small mining towns dust from her shoes and head to the big city. Maybe even New York City. Abigail is already packing to let Mr. Smith move into the small basement apartment she shared with her aunt below the bookstore. It’s said he’s in town and will be at Ms. Pretty’s funeral tomorrow. It will be the townsfolk as well as The Cats first opportunity to see this new resident of Silver Ford, Mr. Smith.
