What we’re about
I’d like to invite you to a friendly and inclusive LGBTQ+ group of people who love speaking French and discover interesting things about la Francophonie.
We are a friendly and inclusive group (old, young, black, tall, short, introverted, ginger etc). We welcome and respect anyone and expect the same.
We have a good mix of native and non-native French speakers who enjoy sharing their passion for the French language and francophone cultures. In the group we only speak French, therefore you’ll need to be able to speak and understand French (I’d say at least at intermediate level).
We don’t teach French. So, this group is Not for beginners.
We meet usually on the 1st Fri (at 18:00) and the 3rd Sat (at 17:00) of each month in London. We often dine together either during or after the event.
Each event lasts a couple of hours. We start with a presentation, then we have little discussion in small groups and then we have a professionally prepared quiz/reading etc. So, you do not just turn up and find someone to talk to. We provide activities to facilitate interaction.
Joining
For privacy and security considerations for all our members, all new membership requests will need to be pre-approved before anyone can have access to the contents posted in this group. Ensure you ALLOW emails for this group on Meetup. Sadly, we have a lot of bots trying to join.
Contribution
We must pay a membership to be on Meetup and have expenses to create activities, hence this group is not free.
To join we ask for £6. This gives you 2 free events to be used in the first 12 months.
After that, you will send a contribution of £3 for each event you like to attend. This can be sent via Paypal / Revolut / Monzo or Starling.
Communication
Most do not know how Meetup works. It’s a platform used to host and send email invitations about events of the groups you joined so if you block these emails ….. Also, if we have not seen or heard from you for a long time, we may send you a message to check that you’re OK. It’s just a friendly way to keep in touch. Feel free to reply. Remember, we are a friendly bunch not a business.
