Google Developer Group (GDG) Cloud London is the most active developer group on the meetup platform in the world!

We organise hacks several times a week every week. We have a general talk once a month. And we usually have several workshops once a month.

We strive to learn and share knowledge about challenging topics in a casual friendly respectful atmosphere.

28: General Talks, Emma and Kaz, Cloud DAs - Pi World Record + Machine Learning

GDG Cloud London General Talks for September 2019. Speaker 1) Kaz Sato / Staff Developer Advocate, Google Cloud, Google Inc. Kaz Sato is Staff Developer Advocate at Google Cloud. For machine learning and data analytics products, such as TensorFlow, Cloud AI and BigQuery, Kaz has been invited as a speaker at major events including Google Cloud Next, Google I/O, Strata, NVIDIA GTC and etc. Also, authoring many GCP blog posts, supporting developer communities for Google Cloud for over 8 years. He is also interested in hardwares and IoT, and has been hosting FPGA meetups since 2013. Speaker 2) Emma Haruka Iwao / Developer Advocate, Google Cloud, Google Inc. Bio: Emma is a developer advocate for Google Cloud Platform, focusing on application developers experience and high performance computing. She has been a C++ developer for more than 15 years and worked on embedded systems and the Chromium Project. Emma is passionate about learning and explaining the most fundamental technologies such as operating systems, distributed systems, and internet protocols. Besides software engineering, she likes games, traveling, and eating delicious food. Description: How We Broke the World Record for Computing Digits of Pi (31.4 trillion!) We have calculated 31.4 trillion digits of Pi in 2019 and broke the world record in the Pi computation. The process took about four months and 200 TiB of storage. Record-breaking Pi calculations have traditionally been done on supercomputers and special-made hardware, but we did it on Cloud for the first time. This talk will discuss the nature of the calculation, the architecture, challenges and techniques, and of course the brief history of Pi computation.
