Hibernation awakening: "Home Labs" & "Mastering Open-Source Load Testing Tools"

Details

With winter coming to an end, we slowly begin to prepare for a 2025 full of community events!

Join us for our first session of the year where we'll chat about "Home Labs" and "Load testing tools". This one will be virtual, so you just need to get your Internet-connected device and hot beverage of choice to participate.

## Agenda

### Mastering Load Testing: A Deep Dive into Autocannon, k6, and Locust

Presented by AbdulHafeez AbdulRaheem, Senior Engineer @ Ernest - The Modern Construction Company

#### Described in his own words

"In today's fast-paced digital landscape, ensuring your applications can handle high traffic and perform under stress is crucial. This session offers an in-depth exploration of three prominent open-source load testing tools: Autocannon, k6, and Locust. We'll begin with Autocannon, a straightforward and fast HTTP/1.1 benchmarking tool designed for quick performance testing. Next, we'll delve into k6, a modern load testing tool built with Go and JavaScript, known for its developer-friendly scripting and seamless integration into CI pipelines. Finally, we'll explore Locust, a scalable user load testing tool written in Python, which allows you to define user behavior using Python code and can simulate millions of users. Throughout the session, we'll compare their features, scripting capabilities, performance metrics, and integration potentials, equipping you with the knowledge to select and implement the right tool for your application's performance testing needs."
Perfect for developers and DevOps enthusiasts!

## Yes, you can set up your very own Home Lab ─ or "Home labbing for fun and profit(?)"

Presented by Diego Coy

#### Description

We will explore the concept of Home Labs, and learn how they can be used as a powerful learning and skill development tool.
Home labs provide an environment where developers can experiment, test, and gain hands-on experience with various technologies and concepts without having to worry about breaking things or receiving an unexpected bill by the end of the month just because you forgot to turn off a Virtual Machine.
We will go over the main points to consider in order to get started, and some of the easier approaches that don't require spending too much time setting things up.
By the end of this session, you'll have a better understanding of what home labbing is, its benefits when it comes to creating realistic production-like setups, simulating complex scenarios, and exploring different tools and technologies, all at your own pace and without the need for a credit card.
