Code For Dayton

Details
Code For Dayton is a monthly user group meeting at the downtown Dayton Innovation Hub. The meetings typically follow the "hack night" format - a little discussion and show and tell up front, followed by an opportunity to break into groups to work on civic or community oriented projects.
This meeting will be a bit different - we've had a speaker volunteer to tell us about a senior project she did at the Miami Valley School, centered on data analysis and traffic.
It should be a fascinating talk and a great change of pace for us!
Here's the abstract:
Traffic congestion is a severe problem in the United States and around the world. Cars idling for minutes to hours on end lead to a multitude of problems, not including wasted time. The exhaust lowers the air quality and releases harmful chemicals into the environment. This project aims to reduce traffic congestion around the Miami Valley School (MVS), during peak hours. Since a majority of the congestion takes place at the Rahn Road and Mad River Road intersection, this project asks, how can the Rahn Road and Mad River Road be improved to lessen traffic congestion? This small, one-lane intersection doesn’t allow for efficient traffic flow and needs to be redesigned to accommodate the influx of traffic from MVS. To do this, Urbano was used to create a map, and a survey was sent to MVS drivers to understand their opinions on the intersection. The Rahn and Mad River Road intersection is poorly designed for the traffic that must go through it daily; this project is trying to rectify this problem.
