Code For Dayton is a monthly user group meeting at the downtown Dayton Innovation Hub. The meetings follow the "hack night" format - a little discussion and show and tell up front, followed by an opportunity to break into groups to work on civic or community oriented projects.

Improving 211 Referrals Through Eligibility-Aware Technology
211 is a nationwide community resource referral service reachable by dialing 211, connecting people to local health, human, and social services. In many regions, 211 services are operated or supported by United Way organizations.

Technologists Gavi Begtrup and Trenton Davis from United Way of Greater Cincinnati are developing a software tool designed to help 211 systems track eligibility requirements across community resources and match callers only to services they are actually eligible to receive.
This challenge is familiar to Code for Dayton (CfD). In past and current projects—including the Dayton Energy Collaborative’s Home Repair Network universal application and the Dayton United for Human Rights Coalition’s Resource Mapping Initiative—CfD has repeatedly encountered the same problem: effective referrals require accurate, up-to-date information about resources and enough client information to reliably determine eligibility and capacity.

At a recent Ohio 211 statewide conference, Gavi presented on the 211 system and its impact. Following that discussion, United Way of Greater Cincinnati and Code for Dayton began exploring a potential collaboration to develop a universal eligibility engine that could be used by any 211 system to improve client-to-resource matching.

On Tuesday, January 6 at 6:00 PM, Trenton Davis will join Code for Dayton’s monthly meeting at the Arcade Innovation Hub (31 S. Main St., Dayton, OH 45402). He’ll share progress on the Eligibility Engine, CfD will share lessons learned from related work, and together we’ll explore what might develop.

We will be one Zoom for this one as well: https://us02web.zoom.us/j/86418974991?pwd=TpywtKh5LSpEe1FqGPoCbdVUlWR7bq.1
