Gen Xers Doing Fun Stuff (and anyone else!)

Join us as we explore the Milwaukee, a town built on BEER! Milwaukee has a long history of breweries, going back to the 1800s with the 3 giants—Miller, Pabst, and Schlitz. One is still functioning, and one exists as a tasting place with a newer brewery down the street! You can either stay the night at a hotel or simply make it a day trip and head back on the train that evening, up to you!

Itinerary (subject to change)
10:30 am: Meet at Chicago Union Station
11:10 am: Leave Chicago Union Station on Amtrak train 1333
12:42 pm: Arrive Milwaukee, get some lunch, walk around the historic downtown area near Amtrak.

2 pm: Miller Brewery tour. I would recommend getting tickets ahead at https://www.millerbrewerytour.com/tour-information because they could fill up. $20 for tour. (Or if you don’t want to do the tour, they have a beer garden as well and I would assume maybe some different beers than their typical.)

3pm ish-7ish: Uber to Best Place at the Historic Pabst Brewery. They have a cute little tavern, maybe pop in and take a look at what used to be the Pabst Brewery (beautiful historic building.) (htttps://bestplacemilwaukee.com/)

Walk to Central Waters, a huge modern brewery a block away. (https://centralwaters.com/milwaukee-tap-room/)

Pilot Brewing company is also in walking distance of this (same as our Pilot here in Chicago), it is a parlor hall type of place where you can sample beers from a bunch of different local breweries.

7:00 ish pm: Taxi or walk (30 min) back to Amtrak for people who are taking the train back.

7:35pm: Amtrak leaves to head back to Chicago.

Anyone who is staying the night can check into hotels/airBNBs and freshen up and then meet at Lakefront Brewery around 7ish when those who are taking Amtrak head back to the station. This is a huge brewery on the river, looks to be very popular and lively at night. They have food as well. They do close at 9.

Please purchase your own Amtrak ticket(s) and wear comfortable shoes! You will want to bring money for taxis, as the breweries are a bit spread out and most are like 6-8 min by car. Always the option to walk if you like!

Also if anyone would prefer to drive themselves or lives closer, feel free to just meet us in Milwaukee!

This is an indie band that started in my tiny hometown, and they are making it big these days—playing for FIFA and touring! I thought it would be a great chance to see them since they are in Chicago!

It’s on a Thursday at 630p, but there is an opener band so if you get there later no worries! Their music is pretty upbeat and danceable, fun. The Cobra Lounge itself is pretty cool, it’s in West Town and they brew their own beer (it’s good), their shows always bring a good crowd.
