About us
East Bay Gen Z Hiking Club is for young folks around the Bay who want a solid reason to get outside and meet people without it being awkward. I started this group because it’s weirdly hard to make new friends these days unless you already have a built-in social circle. Hiking makes it easy: you’re moving, talking, and doing something fun at the same time.

What we do
Most events are weekend day hikes (about 6–8 miles) on East Bay trails.
We keep it friendly and beginner-to-intermediate, and we’ll share the details ahead of time (distance, elevation, meeting spot, and what to bring).
We're also going to experiment with some other events like picnics or barbeques to vary the types of activities for the club.
Come prepared
Bring plenty of water, wear proper shoes, and pack whatever you need for the weather.

This is an inclusive group across backgrounds, genders, sexualities, races, ethnicities, nationalities, religions, and identities. Respect is the baseline.

We’ve had some great hikes so far this year, and now let’s celebrate with a barbecue! Everyone is welcome to this event!
The organizers will provide some food options: chicken and impossible burgers. Attendees can also bring food to barbecue and share, potluck style. The signup sheet is linked below if you are interested in bring something (this is completely optional):

This park has a nice mini hiking/walking loop (half the size of our smallest hikes). After that, we’ll enjoy some tasty food and good company! We will also bring some games to play as well: badminton, soccer, and coup so look forward to that as well.

Secret Valley Loop (Moderate 6.1 Miles)
Macedo Ranch Staging Area, Alamo, CA 94507, USA, Alamo, CA, USIt's always nice to get some great views of Mount Diablo during these hikes and this one provides ample opportunity to see our favorite backyard mountain.
This is a 6.1 mile moderate hike with 1,289 ft elevation gain, so expect a solid workout and some excellent views.
We are trying out a new policy on this hike. There will be an average pace of 21-23 minutes that we will maintain throughout the entire hike. Everyone who attends the event is expected to be able to hike at this pace and keep up with the main group, so we can finish within the allotted time for the event.
It is not our intention to hike at the pace of the slowest hiker. Out of respect for other hikers and their experience, please understand your own physical ability and select hikes that are within your comfort range.
We might workshop this policy after this trial run, but it will be in effect for at least this hike.
There are some sections with limited shade, so please be prepared for that. The hike is late in September, so intense heat should be less of a concern but please bring sun wear if you feel that would be necessary.
Dogs are unfortunately not allowed on this hike.
AllTrails: Secret Valley Loop Trail
Parking: There is not a large dedicated trailhead parking lot. Parking is along the residential streets near the Del Amigo trail entrance on Starview Drive. Please arrive early enough to find a spot, be considerate of the neighborhood and driveways, and carpool if possible.
Where to meet: We will meet at the Macedo Ranch Staging Area and start the trail from there. Please use in the meetup pin below for directions.
There are no restrooms at this trailhead, so please plan accordingly There is also a fee to enter the hike area as well.
Please arrive about 10 minutes before 9:30 AM. We will start the hike shortly after 9:30. If you're going to be late, please message early because cell service may be unreliable once we're on the trail. I'd recommend downloading the trail on AllTrails for offline use in case you get separated from the group.
Please Bring:
- plenty of water — at least ~2L recommended
- snacks
- sunscreen & hat
- sturdy hiking shoes
- hiking poles recommended for the steep climbs and descents
- good vibes
Post-Hike Lunch: For those interested, we'll grab an optional lunch afterward! Location TBD, and we may decide together once we finish the hike.
