We'll talk about drones - what people are doing with them and what sort of imagery they're collecting - at our October 2 meetup. We'll have a series of 5 minute lightning talks on the topic, followed by lots of time after for Q&A, follow up conversations, and beers.

Here's our lineup so far - expect this to grow in the coming days.

• John Crowley (https://twitter.com/jcrowley) will talk about his work using unmanned aerial vehicles to connect field survey teams with remote mappers at Camp Roberts. He'll explain how they're piecing together existing lego blocks to make this vision a reality and something that could be used in disaster response.

• Timothy Reuter (https://twitter.com/droneUni) will speak about the DC Area Drone User Group's (https://www.meetup.com/DC-Area-Drone-User-Group/) efforts to map the Banshee Reeks Nature Preserve as part of drone community service month. He will also discuss different drone platforms for mapping, and the challenges associated with taking geo-tagged photos and turning them into a geo-rectified map layer.

• Vivien Deparday (https://twitter.com/vdeparday) will talk about the work that OpenStreetMap Haiti is doing with drones to capture imagery for tracing into OpenStreetMap and ultimately disaster response.

We'll meet at 7:00 pm at the upstairs bar at Stetsons (http://stetsons-dc.com/) at 16th and U Streets NW. Introductions and lightning talks will start at 7:30 pm. Stetsons is a 21 and over venue. If you're not yet 21 but want to attend, message us via meetup and we'll do our best to get you in.

GeoDC meets on the first Wednesday of the month to learn, network, and talk about the work people are doing with maps, GIS, geodata, and more. Join this meetup group, follow @Geo_DC (https://twitter.com/geo_dc) on Twitter, and join our Google group (https://groups.google.com/forum/?fromgroups#!forum/geonerds-dc) for updates.

Do you have something you'd like to share with the group? Let us know!
