Marxism, a Religion of Capitalism

Details

Marxism is a belief system, and like any belief system it can be examined in two ways: as a set of factual claims which must be either true or false, and as a historical organism which evolves and adapts to its social environment, and which in doing so illustrates how the collective human mind operates.

David Ramsay Steele, PhD, who was a committed Marxist in the 1960s, and since then has been an active and eloquent critic of Marxism, will explain what Marxism has claimed, why these claims are for the most part demonstrably false, and how Marxism has evolved to adapt to the failure of its early predictions.

Dr. Steele will explain historical materialism (and why it’s false), the theory of surplus value (and why it’s false), and Marx’s prediction of inevitable communism (and why that was false, because of the practical infeasibility of a communist form of society as envisaged by Marx and all his early followers).

Among other conclusions, it will be shown that the hankering for some future social order other than capitalism is vacuous and futile, since capitalism is the only possible system which can generate indefinitely improving living standards for the mass of the population. We’re stuck with capitalism, and we should make the most of it.

LOCATION: The name of the condo building is River Plaza, located at 405 N. Wabash. We will meet at unit 4507. River Plaza is located right next to the Trump Tower near the Chicago River. On the first floor of the building, you will see an Italian restaurant, Bongiorno’s. You will need to go through the front desk and sign in with the door staff. In the glass door take one of the elevators on your right. (There are two sets of elevators; you will need to take one of the elevators that go to floors 26 and above.) Take the elevator to the 45th floor and it is the first unit on your right as you get off the elevator.
(The door to the unit will be left unlocked so you can walk right in.)
