Fort Mountain: Gahuti Trail 7.9 Miles

Details
Enjoy mountain top views of as we travel around the edge of Fort Mountain State Park below the summits of Cohutta and Fort Mountains. While this loop trail offers a steady descent then ascent back up Fort Mountain, including some rocky terrain, it is considered a moderately challenging 7.9 miles.
My hiking style is slow and steady, taking periodic breaks for snacks and to enjoy the surroundings. Everyone is expected to have basic navigation skills (see map link below), ability to manage water and food needed, and sun/rain protection for strenuous activity in a wide variety of conditions (heat/cold).
We'll begin at the Visitor's Center then make our way 1.9 miles/5 minutes up Old Fort Road to the Gahuti Trailhead Parking Lot. Entrance/parking is $5 without a Georgia State Park Pass.
I will hike in light-moderate, intermittent rain and cold. Rain date will be posted for severe weather.
