Georgia AT Section #1 Springer or Section # 2

We will be hiking the Georgia section of the AT. We will be doing this in 10 different hikes. The first one we will start at Springer Mt and hike pass Hawk Mt to the forest service road.

This will be a (9) mile hike. I usually hike at a slow pace on these to allow those that want to get the Georgia section completed to be able to do them (around 2mph).

These will be difficult hikes, even if we go slow. If you are not capable of doing long hikes, do NOT attempt these trips.

These will be slow hikes ( EXPECT SLOW). Our Goal is to let people that don't get to enjoy the trails, have a chance to get out and see the beauty that we enjoy.

If you are an experienced hiker, I would ask that you keep within the group to help with the new hikers. Tell your stories... talk about gear... help them figure out what it took all of us old timers years to figure out.

We will be driving miles down dirt forest service roads that are very rough and dusty.

Bring a lunch, trail mix, snacks, and PLENTY of water/gatorade.

Be sure to bring Hiking poles, rain gear just in case it rains never know about the weather

We will carpool from Mansell to Hightower, leave half the cars at Hightower and drive up to Springer parking lot. after we hike down to Hightower we will shuttle back to Springer parking lot

Do not be late we will not wait for you. This will be a long day of hiking.

Dropping out of this event the week of the event will greatly affect your future hikes with me... Do NOT be a NO SHOW on events that people are on the Waiting List wanting to go. It is NOT fair to others for you to hold a spot, then decide you don't want to go for whatever reason.

Normally, the cost is computed by total mileage of trip, divided by mpg of vehicle driven and then divided between riders. Some clubs use .32 per mile, but regardless it‘s cheaper to carpool than to drive yourself. PLEASE help your driver with gas expenses on the trip. If you want to place yourself in a carpool ahead of meeting, just make a comment on this event web page, and I’m sure one of the driver’s will save a place for you. We’ve never left anyone behind due to lack of carpooling space.

Please.... No political, religious or controversial topics during the hike.

This is a dog-friendly park, but dogs must be leashed at all times on the trails.

Carpool :

# 1 We'll meet at Mansell Road & Hwy 400, (Exit 8), this is a MARTA Park & Ride where I always form up carpools. Good place to leave your vehicle.

# 2 Willing to meet anyone at the end of Hwy 400, where Hwy 60 intersects Hwy 400 and the four lane ends. There is a Chevron Service Station on the left by the Waffle House that we normally stop at for the last bathroom break.

The 2025 Donation page is here, if you wish to help with club expenses:
