"G" is for Geospatial: Expand Your GIS Week With Elastic & PostGIS

Details

We’ll be meeting on the eve of GIS Day to focus on two powerful open projects that can expand your geospatial superpowers: Elasticsearch and PostGIS.

The Magic of Search + Location -- Nathan Reese, Elastic

The longstanding contradiction in GIS is while we’ve been laser-focused on the importance of location, our end-users are still frustrated by their ability to find the information nuggets in the mounds of spatial data we shovel their way on a daily basis.

Elasticsearch is bridging the gap by marrying their turbo-charged search capabilities with geographic data. With the recent release of Elastic Maps, combining traditional forms of search with geo querying gives users a singularly powerful information retrieval experience. We'll also dive into how to deliver findings and metrics through maps and dashboards using the Kibana visualization platform.

We Love Living In A PostGIS World -- Testimonials from Real People Solving Real Problems

We’ll celebrate our favorite spatial database with 2-4 minute testimonials from you--the esteemed GeoAmateurs--as you tell us how you use PostGIS everyday to solve your business challenges both big and small. If you would like to participate, contact Brian directly through Meetup messaging, Twitter, whatever. Additionally, we’ll highlight what’s coming down the pike in PostGIS 3.0 and Postgresql 12.0 that will help our analyses become bigger, faster, and stronger.
