BACKGROUND:
MedComms is a vast industry involving many thousands throughout the world which largely operates ‘under the radar’. Participants include publication departments, medical writers & editors, healthcare professionals and patients across industry, publishing and academia. Outputs include any type of health-related document, social media or meeting. MedComms is rapidly developing into an academic discipline with a number of institutions offering degree qualifications. Rightly so, as there is little point in undertaking great research if the outcomes are not communicated widely, ethically and well. At present there is no forum for interchange of knowledge and networking across the D.A.CH countries. A similar initiative in the UK has several thousand members and successfully provides free educational events, a weekly newsletter, job postings etc. (www.medcommsnetworking.com ). We plan to hold a free event on Friday 7th October where we will seek the views of a range of speakers as to the future of Medcomms and how new initiatives may change the landscape. Towards the end of the afternoon we will discuss how this forum should develop (e.g. regular meetings in Frankfurt, Basel, Vienna etc.) and finish with drinks and canapes on the terrace of the famous Ellington Hotel. A free event supported by St Gilesmedical London & Berlin www.stgmed.com
