GERMAN LANGUAGE CLASS: “INTERMEDIATE LEVEL 1.2“

The German language class “Intermediate Level 1.2" at the German International School in Toronto for participants 18 years of age and older: This language course is a great opportunity for those who would like to deepen or refresh their knowledge of German. Course description: This course builds on the “Beginner Level 1.1." Students will continue to learn how to use German in various everyday situations (e.g., in the restaurant, at a reception). There will be formal instruction on grammar, sentence structure, and use of language. New vocabulary is introduced during each lesson. Role play scenarios are used to apply the new material. We will continue applying the present, future and past tenses, and other elements of grammar, as well as German expressions in conversations. As a result, students will be in the position to communicate in German with more confidence. An important part of the course is the practical application of new material and the continuous use of important words and expressions. Making mistakes is allowed: what’s important is to actively participate in the course. Topics: Family, daily routines, clothing, entertainment, food, recreation, work, home, shopping, restaurant, and other topics depending on students’ requests. When and where: • Start: January 28, 2019; end: May 27, 2019) • There are no classes on February 18 (Family Day), April 22 (Easter Monday), and May 20 (Victoria Day). • Mondays from 6 – 7:30 pm • German International School Toronto, 980 Dufferin St. (walking distance from Dufferin subway station) • You can enter the school building through the door at the north entrance closest to the Bloor/Dufferin intersection (Dufferin subway station) and the door on the south end of the building (Dufferin Mall). Walk up to the second floor. The course instructor or school staff will let you in. • The class room (grades 5-9 class room) is on the north end of the hallway. • Parking: park either on the parking lot at the end of the building close to the Bloor/Dufferin intersection or at Dufferin Mall. In addition to teaching courses at the German International School Toronto, Will has been privately teaching basic, intermediate, and advanced German to individual students as well. For the last five years, he has also been working as a German-English translator.

Deutsch-AG für Vorschulkinder an der GIST

Liebe German Mamas, Papas & Kids in Toronto, Die von Jule im Frühjahr 2017 initiierte „Deutsch-AG“ für 3 bis 5-jährige Kinder war auch im letzten Schuljahr ein erneuter Erfolg und so freuen wir uns ankündigen zu dürfen, dass es damit - mittlerweile als etablierter Bestandteil der GIST - im Schuljahr 2018/19 weitergehen wird. Vielen Dank an dieser Stelle auch an Frau Maren Boedeker, die das ganz wunderbar und kreativ in der letzten Saison geleitet hat und die Deutsch-AG auch weiterhin führen wird. Wir wollen gemeinsam den bilingualen Kindern in der Stadt, die weder Vollzeit zur GIST noch zu einer der Samstagsschulen gehen (können), Deutsch als zweite Muttersprache näherbringen. Oft verstehen die Kinder ja beide Sprachen recht gut, doch geht das Deutsche leider schnell in der englischen Umgebung unter. Auf leichte und spielerische Weise sollen die Kinder in der AG zum Üben und Reden auf Deutsch ermuntert werden. Viele Grüße, Jule -> Der Kurs zum frühen Sprachenlernen richtet sich an Kinder zwischen 3 und 5 Jahren, die einen Bezug zur deutschen Sprache haben und erhalten wollen. Mit Hilfe von Reimen, Liedern und themenbezogenen Bastelaufgaben setzen sich die Kinder mit der deutschen Sprache auseinander. Kopf, Herz und Hand werden gleichermaßen aktiviert, um Freude am Sprachenlernen zu wecken. Wichtige Grundsätze hierbei sind: Eine angemessene "Einsprachigkeit" ermöglicht den Kindern ein sogenanntes "Eintauchen" ("immersion") in die Sprachwelt. Zunächst wird das Rezeptive (Kinder hören, verstehen, erschließen, ...) im Vordergrund stehen, bis dann auch das Produktive (Kinder imitieren, reagieren, agieren, ...) angeregt wird. Zunächst ist es wichtig, dass die Kinder lernen, Sachverhalte sprachlich zu vermitteln, bevor man an der sprachlichen Korrektheit feilt. In anderen Worten: Fehler gehören zum Sprachenlernen und dürfen gemacht werden (wie beim Kleinkind, das die Muttersprache lernt). Themengebiete: Jahreszeiten, Uhrzeiten, Feste, Mahlzeiten, Freizeit, soziale Interaktion generell u.a. • Teilnehmer: 3 bis 5-jährige Kinder. Es handelt sich hier um einen drop-off Kurs (Eltern können beim ersten Mal dabei bleiben und danach mit den anderen es sich in der Küche bei einem Kaffee bequem machen); bitte Waiver ausfüllen. • Zeitraum: Schuljahr 2018/19 mit Pausen während der Weihnachts- und Osterferien, die sich am Kalender der GIST orientieren. • Ort: Frau Beuchels Klassenzimmer am nördlichen Ende des Flures. • Kosten: $10. Zur Person: Maren Boedeker hat ihr Staatsexamen in den Fächern Deutsch und Kunst für die Sekundarstufen II und I (also Jahrgangsstufen 5 bis 12 bzw. 13) absolviert und besitzt jahrelange Erfahrung als Klassenlehrerin bzw. dem Unterrichten der beiden Fächer in den Klassen 5, 6 und 7. Hier in Toronto ist Maren auch Künstlerin und hat ihr eigenes Atelier.
