We will leave promptly from Wakering stairs (Not Wakering steps which is miles away) at 6pm.

What three words - ///crabmeat.punk.moth

Put ‘The Broomway’ or ‘Watch Tower X-1’ into google maps and it will show you the start point. This is on a military firing range but the road will be open once they have finished for the day.

Directions - from Great Wakering church (St. Nicholas) drive the section of New road which runs alongside the church (signpost to Foulness) and eventually becomes stairs road. Just after Landwick cottages (SS3 0DH) you will come to a roundabout and MoD checkpoint. No need to stop. Continue straight over into Stairs road. The barrier should be up with a sign saying road open. If the barrier is down, drive up to it and the guard will lift it for you. Continue on stairs road until you get to the seawall.
Please car share where possible.

There is no shelter on the sandbanks so I advise, waterproof & windproof jacket, suncream, hat, and water.

Wellies are ok to walk in but only as long as they are very comfortable. Walking boots or trainers are perfect but they will get soaked through. I usually wear shorts and an old pair of trainers or walking boots that I don’t mind getting wet (they dry out afterwards).

Optional pub (Parsons barn) after. It’s Wetherspoons curry night but other meals are available.
