Details
What: J.W. Corbett encompasses 60,000 acres of pristine Florida habitat, including pine flatwoods, sawgrass marsh, oak/palm hammocks, and cypress wetlands. This hike will be a moderate hike, covering a distance of about 6 miles, mostly on hiking trails and jeep roads, with some off-trail exploration as well. This area abounds with wildlife. Native species include deer, wild hogs, bald eagles, hummingbirds, and red-cockaded woodpeckers.
Where: J. W. Corbett Wildlife Management Area in Western Palm Beach County. The area is situated off Seminole Pratt-Whitney Road, north of Northlake Blvd.
Directions to the Trail Head: Take I-95 to Northlake Blvd (exit #77), go west, past Hwy 710, continue about eight more miles to a Tintersection at the junction of Northlake and Seminole Pratt/Whitney Road. Go right (north) at the intersection, onto a dirt road, and when you see the sign for JW Corbett, stay to right, and continue another two or three miles to the end of the road. You will see a parking area and self-registration area with trail maps and regulations. Be there by 8;15 am would like to start walking by 8:30 am
Bring: Water and water bottles (minimum of two liters is required), hat, sunscreen, bug spray, lunch, day pack or fanny pack, sneakers or hiking boots, long pants recommended (even if you just carry them in your pack), rain gear.
