Introduction to Programming with Ruby [Denver]
Hosted by Girl Develop It Boulder/Denver
Details
Ready to start programming? Want to learn the basics of a language that you can eventually use to build web apps? Then you're ready to learn Ruby. This is a intro-level course. No experience in programming is necessary!
Ruby is an open source language that powers applications and products like Hulu, LivingSocial, Groupon, and Github. There is a thriving, friendly community of users, and the job market for developers is strong.
On Saturday, July 15th from 9:00am-5:00pm, you'll get a thorough introduction to programming fundamentals with Ruby. We'll use the Interactive Ruby shell; write command line programs that use loops, conditionals, methods, and classes; and learn the basics of object oriented programming. We'll mix lecture and practice, and help guide you through the coursework.
For this intro class, we'll use an online development environment that has all of the tools we'll need. Therefore, there's no need to install software ahead of time.
THIS CLASS IS TAUGHT BY RACHEL WARBELOW, GDI LAS VEGAS LEADER.
Rachel is back in Denver to teach Intro to Ruby for us! We're so excited to welcome her back for this class.
Rachel is a teacher first, having started in Las Vegas with Teach for America in 2007 and continuing into 2014. In 2010 she and a partner started a school within a school, the Scholars Working OverTime (SWOT) program to propel students toward college. She got her start in programming through DevBootcamp’s Chicago program in 2013. Over the 2013-2014 school year she began teaching programming to her middle school students.
