Hey newcomers,
If you just moved to the Bay or you're looking to plant some real roots in the city, come experience one of San Francisco's most iconic traditions with me! Navigating a packed Chinatown night market on your own can feel a little daunting, but exploring it with a friendly circle makes the whole evening an absolute blast.
We'll kick things off at St. Mary's Square on California Street, perched right where the neighborhood energy begins to buzz. To take the awkwardness out of meeting people in a new city, our Gist IRL app sets you up with quick, relaxed one-on-one chats. It gives all of us an easy way to break the ice, swap city tips, and find out who's craving the same treats you are.
Once the rounds finish, we'll team up into small squads and head right down into the market together. That way, by the time you step into the lantern glow and smell the sizzling woks, you've got an instant crew to share dim sum baskets with, hold a spot in line, and compare your favorite discoveries. It's the easiest way to make this vibrant city start feeling like home.
The Plan:
- 6:30PM: Check-In. Follow the link to set up your quick profile on your phone.
- 6:45PM - 7:55PM: One-on-One Rounds. The app pairs you for focused chats to connect with fellow newcomers and food lovers.
- 7:55PM+: Form Groups & head to the night market stalls to sample street food together. Reconnect with the people you clicked with, gather into groups of 4-6, and head into the market to feast together.
