Details
BERWICKSHIRE COASTAL PATH, linear walk from DOWLAW to ST ABBS, Scottish Borders, Grade C+OS Sheet 67 grade C+
Ascent: 330m, 11 km, about 4h
This is considered arguably the most dramatic part of the Berwickshire coastal path (it includes a considerably longer stretch of coastal path than the usual St Abbs head walk).
I suggest car sharing if possible. Meetup point in Glasgow: Croy railway station 0815. Driving time from Glasgow to St Abbs via M8 and A1: about 1h40
Please indicate where you wish to meet the group (St Abbs or Croy station).
On arrival at St Abbs, we will leave as many cars as possible at the National Trust carpark on the way into St Abbs and then take the minimum of cars to the walk start point at Dowlaw. NT car park: TD14 5QF
Walk start point: car park just before Dowlaw, 3km along signed lane off the A1107: grid reference NT855701
Walk end point: St Abbs village
Organiser: Paul Harrison
Please post a note if you need a lift.
A gentle start through farmland soon leads on to the most dramatic section of the Berwickshire Coastal Path, leading along the rim of some fabulous cliffs high above the sea. There is a fair amount of up and downhill as the route continues to the National Nature Reserve at St Abb's Head, famed for its seabirds, and on to the fishing village itself.
