Summer Read: ’The Art of Loving’ Part I
Cafe Fame, 127 Hope Street, Glasgow, G2 6PE, GBJoin us at Café Fame July 30th as we discuss one of the most popular philosophical works on love ever written, Erich Fromm’s The Art of Loving. A humanist psychoanalyst who escaped Nazi Germany, Fromm posits an approach to love as an artistic practice requiring the application of the whole personality.
We’ll read pages 1 through 65 of this brief book for Part I of our discussion, exploring how love can be an art form and how modern capitalist society has turned many people into conformist “nine to fivers” who struggle to find fulfillment outside the labour role. Mature love, according to Fromm, allows two unique individuals to experience “oneness” without losing their integrity. Join us at Cafe Fame, 127 Hope Street, Thursday, July 30th from 7 PM to 9 PM to determine what it takes to experience true love.
You can purchase The Art of Loving online and at local bookstores, or, read it for free at this link:
