FIRST MEETING: A Cyborg Manifesto
Details
For our first meeting of the Glasgow Philosophy Reading Group, we’ll look at Donna Haraway’s seminal essay of the 1980s, “A Cyborg Manifesto.” Strikingly relevant to our current moment, “A Cyborg Manifesto" discusses how the advancement of technological devices and the constant feedback human beings receive from them is transforming all of us into “cyborgs,” part-human, part-machine. She explores how both Western working class men and Eastern and Southern female sweatshop workers are being displaced and exploited by the global economics of the 1980s and challenges these two groups to band together and “hack the system.” An electrifying read!
