Join Glasgow Young Walkers for a long weekend in the Cairngorms! According to Walkhighlands: "Britain's largest National Park, the Cairngorms are the most extensive range of high mountains in the UK, with a vast, tundra-like wilderness plateau, girt with magnificent corries, at the heart of the region. This is encircled by the beautiful valleys of the Rivers Spey and Dee, each passing through stunning landscapes of ancient Caledonian pinewoods teeming with wildlife."

Sunday:

- OR a walk from Glenmore to Nethy Bridge / Boat of Garten RSPB reserve ( https://www.walkhighlands.co.uk/cairngorms/ryvoan-pass.shtml)
- OR potentially another hillwalk (if there is a demand for it :) )
Monday :

If the weather is not good enough for high level walks, there are also low-level options in the area. I will add separate events for the walks with further details on the logistics to the website closer to the time.
ACCOMMODATION : I am staying in the Cairngorm Lodge in Glenmore(https://www.hostellingscotland.org.uk/hostels/cairngorm-lodge/). There is also a campsite at Loch Morlich and/or hotel/hostel options in Aviemore. Please make sure that you book accommodation well in advance as hotels and hostels in the area can get booked up fast in the area.
GETTING THERE:
By car :depending on the traffic it takes roughly 3 hours to get to Glenmore from the city centre of Glasgow. If you can offer a lift, please add it to the comments.
By public transport: There are regular trains from Glasgow to Aviemore. Join Glasgow Young Walkers for a walk on Beinn a' Bheithir via the Schoolhouse Ridge. As per Walkhighlands ‘This magnificent mountain ridgewalk takes in two Munros with truly outstanding views of mountain, sea and loch; a real Scottish classic. The ascent involves some easy scrambling up Schoolhouse Ridge.’
Previous scrambling experience is required
- Meeting point: Ballachulish village car park. Open start point in Google Maps for directions.
- Meeting time: 9:15 am
- Distance: 15.5km / 9.75 miles
- Ascent : 1387m
- Duration: 7 - 9 hours
- Terrain: Excellent walking on narrow grassy and rocky ridges higher up. Some scrambling on the ascent, and boggy going on the descent.
Getting there
By car: The starting point of the walk is around 2 hours and 15 minutes by car from the city centre of Glasgow.Please note that number of attendees is limited to 8 people for this walk.
This is a strenuous hill walk which is suitable for walkers with a reasonable level of fitness and scrambling experience. Please wear suitable walking boots and bring your full waterproofs as well as plenty of layers with you. Please also make sure that have plenty of food and water ( minimum 2 litres) on you.
Please note that this walk will only go ahead in reasonable weather conditions. If the weather is not good enough an alternative walk will be offered.

Learn entry level navigation skills, make new friends and enjoy fun days exploring your local area on our free award for 18 to 26-year-olds
The Out There Award is bringing outdoor skills to your doorstep. If you’re aged 18-26, Ramblers Scotland’s Out There Award will kick-start your journey into the outdoors while helping you meet new friends, have fun and learn outdoor skills.
This free two-day award scheme is for everyone, regardless of your background, experience, location or budget.
We've co-designed our syllabus with our participants to ensure it’s crammed full of the outdoor skills that can help you get out there.
Events are held at accessible locations you can get to via sustainable transport.
Not got all the kit? Don't worry, you don’t need any specialist outdoor gear and we'll give you a free Out There Award participant pack with everything you need to take part.
The award is over two days, with about four to eight participants per award:
Day one is the skills day, you will learn the basics of navigation whilst discovering a local walk and making new pals.
Day two is the exploring day, you will build on the skills of day one and explore an amazing local walk. Both days are led by qualified instructors, who will bring the learning to life.
Don’t worry, the Out There Award is not a formal qualification and you’re not being assessed! It’s all about taking part, learning and having fun. If you participate, you pass!
Everyone who completes the two days gets:
· A year of Ramblers membership worth £41 which unlocks unlimited walks with our walking groups
· A Ramblers starter pack, a branded dry bag crammed full of navigation and safety essentials worth £26
· A signed Out There Award certificate
When you’ve completed the award, we hope you’ll have gained the motivation, new friends and outdoor skills to get walking more often. You can also use your free membership to get walking with your local Ramblers Scotland young walking group(s).
You’ll also get access to the Out There Award Plus, two days of volunteering and a night's introduction to camping. If you’ve not got a tent, don’t worry! We’ve all the kit you need to get involved.
You can even apply to our Ambassador Scheme, a year long course where you work towards outdoor qualifications while inspiring the next generation of walkers by leading walks.
We provide a welcoming atmosphere. Most people don't know anyone when they turn up, so don't worry if you're alone!

- Rescheduled - Ben Oss and Beinn DubhchraigBen Oss, Crianlarich
Join Glasgow Young Walkers a walk up the Munros Ben Oss and Beinn Dubhchraig. As per Walkhighlands ‘Ben Oss and Beinn Dubhcraig are satellites of mighty Ben Lui. Although the mountains themselves are not particularly distinguished, the approach walk leads through natural pine and birch forest and is very picturesque, though also very wet. Beinn Dubhcraig offers a fine view down Loch Lomond, whilst the Ben Lui looks simply magnificent from Ben Oss.’
This walk is weather dependant, if the weather is not suitable an alternative walk will be offered- Meeting point: Open start point in Google Maps for directions.
- Meeting time: 11:00am
- Distance: 17km / 10.5 miles
- Ascent : 1230m
- Duration: 7 to 8 hours
- Terrain: Extremely boggy path on the lower approach. Higher up the going is drier; the ridges are broad but rocky and undulating and with some crags - can be confusing terrain in poor visibility.
Getting there
By car: The starting point of the walk is approximately an hour and a half by car from the city centre of Glasgow.
By public transport: The start of the walk is roughly 2.5km from Tyndrum Lower Train Station. There is a bus from Buchannan Bus Station at 6:40am, arrives at 8:26am. Return bus at 6:59pm
Please note that number of attendees is limited to 10 people for this walk.This is a strenuous walk with a steep ascents and descents thus it is only suitable for those with some hillwalking experience. Please wear suitable walking boots and bring your full waterproofs, plenty of layers with you. Please also make sure that have plenty of food and water ( minimum 2 litres) on you.
