Field Trip - Spicebush, Birds, Dinosaurs and more

Details

Join Gloucester County Nature Club for an early spring walk in the woods. We will look and listen for spring migrants, so if you have binoculars, bring them. Along our walk we will encounter spicebush and other native plants. One of the first woodland flowers of spring, spicebush forms a lovely yellow haze in some places along our trail. We will also explore the dinosaur and marl history of this side of Chestnut Branch Creek. The walk is 1.5 miles on dirt trails, with a few small hills.

Trip Leaders: Kris & Erik Mollenhauer

Directions: This hike is on the Golf Course side of Ceres Park. DO NOT go to the Ceres Park parking lot off Pitman-Barnsboro Rd. If you type “Ceres Back Lot” into Google maps, it will show up. Essentially, coming from Pitman... drive one mile on Pitman Rd (from Carolina Blue Restaurant... continue past the Pitman Golf course), then turn right onto a dirt lane that leads to a parking area. One of us will be standing at the turnoff to that dirt road.
