We will meet at the Shining Creek Path trailhead parking lot (off of highway 276) at 9:15am. Our hike will begin at 9:30am.

18082 US-276, Canton, NC 28716

Beginning with Shining Creek Path, we will take a right on Old Butt Knob trail for an intense climb. We will gain 2000' eg within the 1st 2 miles. Most of the eg gain for this hike is on this trail. Frequent water breaks will be required and practiced while ascending Old Butt. Once we reach close to the summit of Shining Rock, we will turn left on the Art Loeb trail and ascend the 6k plus summit of Grassy Cove Top. 360-degree views will be available with clear skies revealing Mt. Pisgah, Black Balsam, Sam's Knob, Mt. Hardy and beyond. After our lunch break, we will return via the Art Loeb and turn right to descend Shining Creek Path. Great care and focus must be practiced as we encounter rocks, roots, and slippery leaves along with a rather steep descent. The frequent cascades of Shining Creek path will be on our right and I must say it's beautiful in sound and sight. There's is one wash out that will require us to cross via the help of solid, big tree. I'll try to provide a photo of this part of the trail.

This is a VVS hike.
Distance: around 12 miles.
Elevation Gain: 3200'
