NOTE: CAMPOUT ATTENDEES WILL HAVE AN EARLY OPPORTUNITY TO JOIN DESIGNATED HIKES. IF YOU GOING TO THE CAMPOUT THEN JOIN THE WAITLIST. CAMPOUT ATTENDEES WILL BE MANUALLY ACCEPTED BY THE LEADER.
WE’RE PLANNING AN EARLY START SINCE SEVERAL OF US WILL BE AT THE GNHA CAMPOUT AND THE PARKING AT THE ALUM TRAILHEAD IS LIMITED.
The hike starts at the Alum Cave trailhead.
Alum Cave is the most spectacular of the 5 trails leading to the top of Mt. LeConte. At 2.3 miles the trail passes under the Alum Cave Bluff and at 5.5 miles we reach the top (6593’) with an elevation gain of 2750’. We’ll continue on to Myrtle Point and return the same way.
Remember, it can be warm at the bottom of the mountain and cold on top so be prepared for cool fall weather. This is a great opportunity to see one of America’s prettiest mountains.
