(VVS) Green River Game Lands
This hike is easily a VS due to mileage and eg. However, due to bushwhacking around blow downs from Helene, and a bit of climbing through washouts, technically skilled or experienced hikers are encouraged to attend.

Please meet at the Cracker Barrel parking lot near Hendersonville, NC at 8:30am to organize carpools. Directions via Bing Maps: Cracker Barrel Old Country Store - Bing Maps . From Cracker Barrel we will travel to the Bishop Branch Trailhead within the Green River Game Lands. We will take Bishop Branch, Rock Hop, and Pulliam Creek Trail down to the Narrows. The Narrows requires a steep descent (there are ropes to assist) to get to the riverbed where extreme rapids are observed and used by technically skilled kayakers. This area is a powerful and beautiful work of nature. From there we will ascend the same steep descent (rope assisted) to continue our hike. We will continue down Pulliam Creek and meet up with the Green River Trail. This trail consists of several blow downs and washouts. Bushwhacking and a bit of climbing on banks are required (similar to the trail on the Big East Fork Trail in the Shining Rock Wilderness). We will hike to a rocky outcrop along the Green River to eat lunch. This is a nice, beautiful area of the Green River Gorge. After lunch we will return via the same route with the exception of taking a right on Bear Branch to Bishop Branch and return to our cars.

Helene has drastically changed the Green River Gorge area. As you know numerous homes were destroyed and washed away along the Green River. The river is now wider, and thus closer to the Green River Trail making it much easier to see from the trail. I hope by the date of the hike some good fall colors will remain.

If you have not hiked with me in the past, you must, seriously, you must contact me via the messenger tool on this app, email cliff@argylemultimedia.com, or via phone 864-415-4851. I will inquire of your most recent hike history. This hike requires some technical skill and confidence overcoming obstacles, scaling a 10-to-12-foot near vertical bank, and a spirit of ease while on rough, user trails.
