(VVS) Shining Rock Wilderness
Meet at the Shining Creek Path trailhead via the Shining Creek Path parking area off of highway 276 by 9:15am. Our hike will begin at 9:30am.

Trailhead: https://maps.app.goo.gl/HDqijY92YM1m4yKh8

We will take Shining Creek Path up to the Art Loeb trail, turn left to summit and lunch at Grassy Cove Top (6050') with a panoramic view, descend via the Greasy Cove trail, cross the Yellowstone Prong (your feet may get wet) and return to our cars via the Big East Fork Trail.

This is a technically challenging trail. The climb up Shining Creek Path is constant and long. When crossing the Yellowstone Prong your feet may get wet and there's a short, but steep scramble up (about 15') the rock and dirt bank of the Yellowstone Prong to access the Big East Fork Trail. The Big East Fork offers several washouts and blowdowns via several years of flooding. At some points the trail is right on the edge of a steep drop off to the Big East Fork River and at times the trail drops down via rock/boulder scrambling to the riverbed. Throughout the Big East Fork there are several stream crossings requiring rock hops. Great care, focus, and patience is required.

Although a challenging hike, the beauty and sound of a cascading mountain stream (Shining Creek, Greasy Cove Prong, Yellowstone Prong, and the Big East Fork Prong) are all worth the effort of this hike. The view from Grassy Cove Top is incredible on clear days.

After the hike for those interested we can meet up at Ecusta's or Oscar Blues where the burgers offered via the food truck are delicious.

You must contact me via messenger on the Meetup App or email cliff@argylemultimedia.com if you have not hiked with me before. I will inquire or your most recent hike adventures and your general fitness. Again, this hike is challenging mentally and physically.
