Miami Woods BioBlitz 2026 — Discover What’s in Your Backyard!
What exactly is a BioBlitz? It’s a fun, free community nature adventure where people of all ages and abilities work together to discover and document as many plants, animals, fungi, and other living things as possible in a specific area. Using the free iNaturalist app, you can simply take photos of what you find and let the app help you identify it. It’s an easy, interactive way to slow down, explore, and learn more about the amazing biodiversity right here in our own backyard!
No experience needed! Please download the free iNaturalist app from your phone’s app store before arriving. If you’ve never used it, don’t worry—we’ll be happy to help you get started. It only takes a few minutes to learn, and you’ll be surprised how quickly you can begin making observations. The information collected through iNaturalist also helps build a shared record of the species found at Miami Woods, giving us a better understanding of the incredible life that calls the park home.
Meet at the Miami Woods trailhead (off New London Road) by 10:00 AM on Saturday, September 26th. After a brief welcome, we’ll divide into smaller groups and head out onto one of the four trails to explore and start documenting our discoveries. Can’t make the 10:00 AM meetup? No problem! You’re welcome to participate at any time throughout the day—just be sure to add your observations to the “Miami Woods BioBlitz 2026” project in iNaturalist.
