South Chilterns Winterval Getaway 2025-2026

Our previous visits to the Chiltern Hills have been northside, and the southern landscapes of Buckinghamshire look a bit different. Also, the lively town centre of High Wycombe where we're staying over is suitably situated for a straightforward drive along the M40 and offers a splendid choice of countryside walks closeby.

Group Booking
This consists of a package of walks and accommodation (plus evenings out) which co-locates everyone, and at a great price for those first to RSVP. Since we must sell places to meet a financial obligation, please don't book own-accommodation unless we run out! The booking is for 2 nights, being midweek, but feel free to extend your stay.

Logistics
Venue: High Wycombe Central Travelodge, Octagon Parade, High Wycombe, HP11 2DQ
Cost: Just £53.75 initially, but may increase if we need to extend the booking. Meetup will collect payment when you RSVP, but note that meetup payment facility incurs fees; These can be averted if instead paying the host directly without engaging us in questions, admin and delays. A discount is available for anyone booking with us in Feb/2025.
Included: 3 night's accommodation with guided walks each day.
Not Included: Meals, transport, insurance, anything else not mentioned.
Location: Business Class Hotel (saver rate, non refundable), adjacent to amenities in the town centre.
Rooms: These are Double and Twin ensuite, all with Shower/Bath, TV, Coffee/Tea making facilities. No single rooms sorry. Room mates may nominate each other when booking, else will be allocated when adding to the hotel guest list.

Appropriate winter walking clothing is needed including boots, full waterproofs, warm outdoor activity clothing, hats/gloves. Not trainers, jeans, etc. We can have pub stops on our walks, and can socialize relaxingly later after the walks too. We'll need to take picnic lunches each day regardless, since mid-walk lunch bookings are impractical.

ACCOMMODATION:
We have 30 reasonably priced places (group deal) at Travelodge High Wycombe Central, to be occupied first. After this we may obtain more group places, or extend to booking own accommodation if viable. If you book for yourself plus a guest, we need you to provide the name of your guest for hotel reception. There is also a Premier Inn in town.

OVERALL ITINERARY:
In due course, there will be links with full details of walk routes and social activities. If walks appear to fill, please join the wait-list, and we will either create additional routes or increase spaces, providing that RSVPs are not being altered at the last moment (nobody will be doing admin over xmas), so please finalize your RSVPs well prior.

In due course, we may also need volunteers either to lead extra walk routes or book pub venues for drinking/eating/music on Dec-31st. Indicatively, these are some walks/socials we may undertake:-

Pubs and Takeaways
There are many convenience food facilities and pubs/cafes in the town. The hotel also does breakfast bags, which you can book with reception on arrival.

Social Evenings:
We aim to conclude walks each day no later than 15:30, allowing ample time to relax, freshen-up and have eaten by 7pm (or head into town early to look around). We can then spend evenings socializing.
